Introduction The training mission to the Philippines includes one hands-on laboratory training and two 2-day training workshops. In collaboration with the Philippines Animal Health Centre of Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI), the hands-on laboratory training took place on 28 October - 5 November 2010 in Quezon City. The training was attended by eight virologists and covered topics such as virus isolation, virus characterisation, antibody detection, molecular sequencing, quality management systems, etc.
Two 2 -day training workshops in collaboration with the Animal Health Division of the BAI took place from 15-19 November 2010 in Tagaytay City. The training workshops on strengthening disease outbreak investigation, surveillance and emergency preparedness and response aimed to build capacity of animal health workers in the Philippines. About 42 participants from the BAI and provincial veterinary offices across the country participated in the workshops.

Participants A total of 50 participants attended the Philippines training workshops, including provincial and regional veterinary officers in charge, the senior virologists and laboratory technicians from the BAI etc.
Experts The technical content of laboratory workshop was delivered by Ms. Wendy Shell. The technical content of the training workshop was delivered by one international expert Dr. Dubravka Selenic and two BAI experts, Dr. Emelinda L. Lopez and Dr. Karen Rose C. Dazo.
