Introduction The sustained training mission to Ukraine took place on 20 – 24 June, 2011 at Simferopol, Republic of Crimea in coordination with the State Committee for Veterinary Medicine of Ukraine (SCVM). The training was attended by 38 animal health workers from the central level and the Deputy Heads of Administration of 19 regional veterinary administration units.
Up to May 2011, Ukraine had had 42 HPAI outbreaks. The first one appeared in Crimea in October 2005and by September 2006 the first wave of outbreaks in Ukraine had come to an end. In January 2008, there was another outbreak report in domestic poultry; its final case happened in February 11, 2008 and by July that year Ukraine declared itself free of HPAI.

Participants A total of 38 participants attended the workshop including the Deputy Heads of Administration of 19 regional veterinary administration units in Ukraine. Central government officials from the State Veterinary and Phytosanitary Service of Ukraine also took part in the workshop.
Experts The training was conducted by Mr. Andrew Almond and Dr. Poul Jorgensen.
